I have over 35 years experience of calligraphy, starting in 1980 in Stella Maris Secondary School, Ballycastle. I always had an interest in arts and crafts, and when I was introduced to calligraphy in first year, I fell in love a bit!! I was enchanted by the way the flat nib could make different shapes and letter forms, and if I took my time, and tried not to blot my page, I could produce pretty nice work. I owe a debt of gratitude to Sr’s Norrie, Cannice and Loretto from the Mercy Sisters, Ballycastle, for their kind guidance, patience and generosity in sharing their skills with me.
Throughout my career I have never strayed too far from my creative side, and although I worked for several years in the pharmaceutical industry, I continued to ‘make and do’ in my spare time.
I have been running my micro business, Mayo Calligraphy since 2013 and I am endebted to the many customers who have kept me ‘floating’ since then!! I am privileged to have worked with many state, semi-state and private companies as well as countless individuals whom I have helped to preserve their precious memories.
