About Mayo Calligraphy

Maggi Geraghty, Celtic calligrapher and founder of Mayo Calligraphy, Ballintubber, Co. Mayo, Ireland

I'm Maggi Geraghty, a calligrapher based in Ballintubber, Co. Mayo - working across commissions large and small, wedding stationery, memorial cards, and family trees that trace the threads of Irish life back through the generations.

My studio serves individuals, families, and institutions alike. You'll find Celtic name prints in my portfolio alongside hand-inked pieces for castle hotels, certificates for national business awards, wedding stationery, memorial cards, and family trees that trace the threads of Irish life back through the generations.

Whatever brings you here, the approach is the same: researched, hand-crafted, and made to last.

Introducing Maggi Geraghty - the craftsperson.

I have never strayed too far from my creative side. Even during the years I spent working in the pharmaceutical industry, I was always making, always doing - ink and paper never far from my hands.

Working with ink for over 45 years has taught me that the most meaningful things we can leave behind are not objects - they are stories, names, and moments captured with care and intention. I founded Mayo Calligraphy in 2013, and since then I have been privileged to work with individuals, families, and some of Ireland's most respected institutions - helping people preserve what matters most, in a form that will outlast us all.

That is what drives this work. Photographs fade. Trophies gather dust. Three generations from now, our grandchildren's grandchildren won't know our names - unless someone took the time to write them down, beautifully and permanently. That is what I do. I put names to faces, dates to occasions, and meaning to milestones - so that those who come after us will know something of how we lived, and who we loved.

Getting It Right

Every Celtic name print in the Vault carries claims of fact - the language a name grew from, the saints and kings and singers who bore it. Beautiful words are easy; true words take checking. In July 2026 we read every print in the collection line by line and verified every claim against published sources - the medieval annals, the dictionaries of the Irish language, and the standard works on Irish names. The full record, name by name, is on our Sources & References page.

Beyond the Nib

A dog lover, avid local history enthusiast, and lifelong genealogy fan. In the studio - patient, methodical, and quietly obsessed with getting it right.
