Sadhbh - Irish Name - Fine Art Print

The meaning of Sadhbh

Sadhbh - from the Old Irish Sadb, meaning sweet - a word the ancient world wrapped around a woman and meant as the highest praise. In the tales of the Fianna, Sadhbh was a daughter of Bodb Derg, king of the Síd of Munster, transformed into a deer by the dark druid Fear Doirche for refusing his love. She wandered three years in that shape before she found her way to Almhuin, the fort of Fionn mac Cumhaill, where his hounds - themselves once human - knew her for what she was and would not touch her.

The rest of Sadhbh's story is set down in the print.
