Neasa - Irish Name - Fine Art Print

The meaning of Neasa

Neasa - from the Old Irish Ness, from Ní-assa - 'not gentle.' The storytellers say she was born Assa, the gentle one, until wrong was done to her house and she took up arms to answer it, and the name changed with her. She was a princess of Ulster and the maker of its greatest king, for in an age when every son was named for his father, her boy is remembered as Conchobar mac Nessa - son of Ness - his mother's name carried before him into every tale of Ulster.

The rest of Neasa's story is set down in the print.
