Mamie - Irish Name - Fine Art Print

Mamie - a pet form of Mary - and sometimes of Margaret - born in the nursery and kept for life, from the days when every Irish house had its Mary and needed a warmer word for the one it loved best. Beneath it stands the oldest and most honoured of women's names, borne by generations of Irish daughters beyond counting; Mamie is what that great name sounds like at the kitchen door. Mamie Eisenhower - christened Mary - carried it all the way to the White House as First Lady from 1953 to 1961 and never once traded it for anything grander. Mamie Gummer carries it through the theatre and television of our own day, a Drama Desk nominee with her mother Meryl Streep's gift alive in her. The full story of Mamie - its meaning, history, and place in Ireland - is set down in the print.
