Edith - Irish Name - Fine Art Print

Edith - from the Old English Eadgyth - ead, meaning blessed and prosperous, joined to gyth, meaning war - a name that holds peace and battle in the one breath. It was a name of Anglo-Saxon royalty: Edith of Wilton, daughter of a king, chose the cloister over the crown and filled her short life with music, embroidery and calligraphy - proof that a quiet life can still be a full one. In Ireland the name found its finest bearer in Edith Somerville of Castletownshend in west Cork, who with her cousin Violet Martin wrote The Real Charlotte and the Irish R.M. stories - some of the sharpest and funniest portraits of Irish life ever set down. The full story of Edith - its meaning, history, and place in Ireland - is set down in the print.
