Aibhílín - Irish Name - Fine Art Print

... from the Norman French Aveline, the name the Normans carried over the sea in the twelfth century - and Aibhílín is the Irish welcome that stayed closest to it, the Gaelic shape that keeps every soft syllable of the original, the name as it sounded when it was new to Ireland and the harpers were still learning it. The old name-books trace it back further, to a Germanic root read as desired - the longed-for child - and from this one Norman seed Ireland grew a whole garden of daughters: Eibhlín, Eileen, Evelyn, each tracing her line back through Aibhílín's door. It is rare now, and that is its glory: the connoisseur's form, the family's founding grace kept in its oldest setting. The full story of Aibhílín - its meaning, history, and place in Ireland - is set down in the print.
